Triple C Goes Under the Knife

The Triple Champ Henry Cejudo had rotator cuff surgery and is excepted to be out the rest of the year. Henry Cejudo just defeated Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 to capture the vacant UFC Bantamweight Championship. With his 5th straight victory, Henry become one out four fighter in UFC history to hold two titles at the same time. The Champ Champ was attaining steam in and out of the octagon and was becoming a main stream star. With Henry Cejudo out for the rest of the year more importantly what does that do for his flyweight & bantamweight championships?

Lets start with his flyweight title. Henry has not defended the title since defeating TJ Dillashaw in January of 2019. With now the triple champ being sideline to at least January 2020, the UFC should strip Henry of his title. Out of all the divisions in the UFC, the men’s flyweight is the one that needs a champion to lead the division and create marquee matchups. If the UFC moves fast, the Joseph Benavides vs Jussier Formiga matchup on June 29th on ESPN is screaming new interim flyer championship match. The UFC could create new fresh matchups and might make a substantial opponent when Henry Cejudo comes back to the division to re capture his title.

Last we get to his freshly won Bantamweight Championship which I think the UFC should keep the belt right on his shoulders. Henry just won the title and could defend it in early 2020. The primary reason to keep the title on Henry is how strong the UFC bantamweight division is right now. The division will just find without Henry and might even create clarity on who should be the number one contender. The division can have a mini four person fight in tournament to declare who fights Henry when he gets back from the sidelines. The UFC can have Peter Yan, Aljamain Sterling, Marlon Moraes and Cody Stamann all fight it out for the rest of the year. The winner of this mini tournament gets first crack at the Triple Champ himself Henry Cejudo. We wish Henry Cejudo is speedy recovery back to the UFC octagon which he was born to be.
