An eye-catching lightweight matchup of Brazilian all-rounder, Renato Moicano, and Phuket Top Team standout, Rafael ‘Ataman’ Fiziev has been booked for a UFC Fight Night event on November 28th. – with a location or venue for the card yet to be determined by the promotion.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Moicano was initially scheduled to match with Magomed Mustafaev at a UFC Fight Island event on October 17th. – but withdrew from the matchup earlier this month, with the promotion pitting Mustafaev with new singing, former two-weight KSW world champion, Mateusz ‘Gamer’ Gamrot instead.
Making his divisional bow at UFC Fight Night Brasília in March this year, Moicano took a forty-four rear-naked choke win over Damir Hadžović to bring a close to a two-fight skid at featherweight. The finish came as the seventh submission win of Moicano’s career.
Kazakhstan born striker, Fiziev has won two consecutively – taking an impressive unanimous decision win over Marc ‘Bonecrusher’ Diakiese at UFC Fight Island 2 on July 19th. News of the lightweight pairing was initially reported by Combate reporter, Raphael Marinho.
31-year-old Brasília native, Moicano makes his tenth Octagon appearance, following his organizational bow back in December 2014 at UFC Fight Night Barueri on home soil. Amassing a 6-3 promotional résumé – Moicano has bested the likes of Jeremy Stephens, Cub Swanson, Zubaira Tukhugov, and Calvin Kattar, dropping defeats to one-time title challengers, Chan Sung Jung and Brian Ortega – whom he shares the October 17th. card with, as well as former division kingpin, José Aldo.
8-1 Muay Thai ace, Fiziev has scored a 2-1 record since his transition from Titan FC in April 2019. Initially faltering, Fiziev dropped a spinning back-kick knockout loss to the above noted, Mustafaev – before lodging his first UFC win with a unanimous judging victory over Alex White at UFC Fight Night Kallang in October of last year.
