As well as his UFC Fight Island meeting with decorated grappler, Demian Maia in October – Chechen born prospect, Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev is currently in discussions to meet with Roufusport finisher, Gerald ‘GM3’ Meerschaert in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night Vegas 11 on September 19th. – from the UFC Apex facility.
UFC president, Dana White revealed earlier this afternoon, how Chimaev, who arrives in Las Vegas on Monday – is in line to meet with former title challenger, Maia at a UFC Fight Island event in October. On top of that matchup – it seems he’ll make his third Octagon appearance on September 19th. against Meerschaert.
Back in July, on ‘Fight Island’ as well, Chimaev scored a pair of finishes over both John Phillips, and Rhys McKee, just ten days apart – making a notable splash in the promotion.
Hoping to return to winning ways, grappling talent, Meerschaert dropped an early knockout defeat to former interim LFA middleweight titleholder, Ian Heinisch at UFC 250 in June. The 32-year-old was recently removed from an August 1st. meeting with veteran, Ed Herman – after he tested positive for COVID-19. Combate reporter, Raphael Marinho was first report the news of the promotion’s intention to book Meerschaert opposite Chimaev.
Ahead of his third and apparent fourth Octagon appearance just two months since his organizational bow, Swedish born grappling ace, Chimaev managed to pummel Welsh striker, Phillips before scoring a D’Arce victory. On July 25th. against promotional debutante, McKee – the 26-year-old secured an early takedown, before finishing with ground-and-pound.
Prior to his quickfire defeat to the above mentioned, Heinisch – Wisconsin native, Meerschaert picked up eye-catching submissions over both Deron Winn, and Trevin Giles, in between a razor-thin decision loss to Eryk Anders.
