An important lightweight rematch, six years after the first clash has been agreed for a UFC Fight Night event on February 6th. Streaking top-ten contenders, Diego Ferreira, and Beneil Dariush have both agreed to re-run their UFC 179 clash from October 2014, as both look to continue their surge toward the division’s upper-echelon contenders. Handing Ferreira his first promotional defeat, Kings MMA grappler, Dariush scored a unanimous decision win over the Fortis MMA mainstay – scoring a second straight win as part of a five-fight winning spree. News of the intriguing re-run was first penned by ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto. Six years later, however, Ferreira has dropped just a single defeat; a knockout loss to former interim champion, Dustin Poirier, before embarking on an eye-catching six-fight winning run. In his most high-profile Octagon outing at UFC 246 in January of this year, the Amazonas native scored a dominant second-round rear-naked choke victory over former WEC and UFC 155-pound best, Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis. Riding a five-fight unbeaten run once more, 31-year-old Iranian born finisher, Dariush has featured twice in 2020 – picking up highlight-reel one-punch knockout wins over both Drakkar Klose and Scott Holtzman, the most recent at UFC Vegas 6 in August. The UFC Fight Night event, which is still without a location or venue, is expected to be headlined by a rescheduled heavyweight tie between the decorated kickboxing ace, Alistair ‘The Demolition Man’ Overeem, and recent ‘Fight Island’ victor, Alexander ‘Drago’ Volkov.
