Illinois Juco national champion, Blaydes has so far utilised his wrestling prowess to dispatch nine Octagon opponents. Between a string of defeats to one-time title titler, and number-one contender, Francis Ngannou – Blaydes has emerged as a serious contender in the division.
From those nine victories, Blaydes has managed to knock back former world champions, Junior dos Santos, Mark Hunt, the aforenoted, Volkov, and Alistair Overeem. From fourteen professional victories, Blaydes has ended ten within the distance via strikes.
A contender accustomed to finishing fights via knockout – New Orleans fan-favourite, Lewis set a division record in his aforementioned win over common foe, Oleinik. With the second-round barrage, Lewis scored his thirteen UFC win via knockout – eclipsing the prior divisional record.
In some notable victories, Lewis has finished the likes of Travis Browne, another common opponent, Volkov, Marcin Tybura, Gabriel Gonzaga, and Shamil Abdurakhimov to name a few.
