Possible Future Championship Matches post UFC 245

The last UFC PPV of the year was headlined by three championship fights and with UFC 245 officially in the books, what’s next for the three champions going forward in 2020.

first the greatest female fighter of all time and two weight class champion Amanda Nunes. In the featherweight division, there is not a clear cut #1 contender at the moment. If Felicia Spencer continues her momentum from 2019 to 2020 we could see a Spencer vs Nunes in the summer to fall of 2020. In the bantamweight division, we have the rising star in Irene Aldana and the always dangerous Aspen Ladd. We could absolutely see a Ladd vs Nunes UFC female bantamweight championship fight in the spring of 2020.

Next we have a new champion in the men’s featherweight division with Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski. He defeated the greatest featherweight of all time Max Holloway via unanimous decision. The division is absolutely stacked with young studs in Brian Ortega, Zabit Magomedsharipov and Yair Rodriguez. Also in the division we have legends in Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar that could always challenge for the championship. But, maybe the dark horse to challenge for the featherweight title is the Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung. The safe money would be a immediate rematch in the summer of 2020 of Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway.

Last but certainly not least, the welterweight champion of the world Kamaru Usman. In 2019 the welterweight division was the hottest in the sport with the rise of the biggest name in the sport Jorge Masvidal. You have Tyron Woodley, Rafael Dos Anjos and Anthony Pettis who have all held UFC gold before. Then there are young savages like Leon Edwards, Gilbert Burns and Geoff Neal that would love to get a crack at the welterweight championship. And then you have the wing of legends Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor and Robbie Lawler who can always sell out an arena and create  humongous buzz around the title. But, my guess to challenge for the UFC welterweight gold first would be Leon Edwards which is a fresh matchup and keeps the welterweight division rolling!
