The return we all have been waiting for, according to the UFC President Dana White, Nick Diaz (17-10) is scheduled to make his return to the UFC Octagon against Jorge Masvidal (32-13) in a Welterweight bout at UFC 235 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this March. It has been four years since Nick last fought in the octagon where he suffered a loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 183. However, both fighters failed their drug test which resulted in a No Contest.
When breaking down both Nick Diaz and Jorge Masvidal’s UFC resume, both are extremely impressive and known for their exciting fighting style. Nick has fought against the upper echelon type of fighters his whole career, his last couple fights have been with Anderson Silva (34-8), Georges St. Pierre (26-2), Carlos Condit (30-12), BJ Penn (16-12), Paul Daley (40-16), and the list continues. This is also the case for Jorge, Stephen Thompson (14-3), Demian Maia (25-9), Donald Cerrone (34-10), and more.
So what does this mean for both fighters? For Nick, this is an opportunity to show he is still one of the best mixed martial artists in the world and get his first win since 2011 against BJ Penn.
For Jorge, defeating someone of the likes of Nick Diaz would catapult him up the ranks of the Welterweight division. One thing is for sure, this has fight of the year potential written all over it.
