This past Friday, Island Fights had their first amateur event of the year at the Pensacola Fairgrounds in front of a massive crowd. Fight fans saw a mixture of mix martial art matchups, heavyweight boxing, female kickboxing, and a grappling contest. Island Fights 62 had everything a combat sports fan dreams of. Sitting in the venue ring side, I saw a back & forth female kickboxing fight, some slick submissions, a unbelievable main event and a knockout that I will tell my grandkids about.
In the main event, we saw a bantamweight MMA match between Jacob Brown & Eddie Price. Prior to the event, as fight week progressed, this fight got bigger & bigger with both men being top end prospects. The Brown/Price fight was a absolute 3-round war with both men coming out looking like obvious soon-to-be UFC stars. Eddie Price, the younger, less cage time fighter, took the fight to Jacob with his heavy hands and wrestling techniques. However, with heart, grit, slick striking and as a veteran inside the ring, Jacob won the fight via unanimous decision 29-28. Mix Martial Community, if you don’t know the name Jacob Brown, learn it now before the train leaves the station.
