Fresh off an emphatic knockout victory over Alexander Hernandez, the rumors of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone fighting Conor McGregor immediately took place. Cerrone has expressed interest in fighting McGregor in the past by now it seems more probable than ever. McGregor is coming off a loss to the current lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and after the impressive win by Cerrone, their courses may finally meet.
After Cerrone’s win he had a very respectful call out of McGregor, to which McGregor responded via Twitter, “For a fight like that Donald, I’ll fight you. Congratulations.” Cerrone has more than his fair share of accomplishments inside the octagon, however a fight with McGregor would be his biggest fight to date.
Cerrone then responded via Twitter, “Don’t worry [Conor McGregor], I’ll drink Proper Whiskey at the Press Conference with ya!! Hell I’ll bring the Budweiser.”
McGregor responded via Twitter, “Sounds like a party!”
The most recent post between the two came from Cerrone via Instragram, “What would you like to Know? Ask anything? ( only not about my next fight because that’s in the works and I can’t give you a answer).”
Compared to McGregor’s last fight with khabib, this back and forth with Cerrone has a much friendlier and respectful tone. This stylistically makes for a very exciting fight because both fighters are incredibly gifted and skilled on the feet. For Cerrone, a win over the former lightweight and featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, puts him right in line for a title shot. For McGregor, getting a great win over a highly skilled opponent under his belt and getting his rhythm back could be all he needs to revenge his loss against Khabib. For both fighters, there hasn’t been a better time for both of them to share the octagon and put on a thrilling fight for the fans!
