There is nothing better than watching two elite heavyweights share the octagon. March 9, two heavy hitting heavyweights, Derrick Lewis (21-6) and former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Antos (20-5), will meet in the octagon for the UFC’s fourth ESPN+ event in Wichita, Kansas. What already seems to have fight of the night written all over it, what makes it even more intriguing is how important this fight is for both fighters.
In the history of combat sports there is something special when you see the biggest humans on earth go to war. From Muhammad Ali to Joe Frazier, from Mike Tyson to Evander Holyfield, to Stipe Miotic and Daniel Cormier, the world gravitates to seeing the biggest people compete against each other, to see who is the baddest man on the planet? For the UFC, the heavyweight division is on a role! Both Derrick Lewis and Junior Dos Santos are known for putting on extremely entertaining fights by standing toe to toe with their opponents. Both fighters are decorated knock out artists and one could imagine, are looking to knock each other out come March 9 in Wichita, Kansas.
The former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos has an extremely decorated resume. From battling the former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, to battling another former heavyweight champion in Cain Velasquez. However as of recent, Junior Dos Santos has transitioned from wins and losses, but is coming off an impressive TKO victory over Tai Tuivasa in the second round. A win over Lewis, puts Junior Dos Santos right back in contention for the title.
For Derrick Lewis, he had four fights in 2018 fighting the best of the best and putting together a three fight win streak. Lewis then was defeated in his first title attempt to the current heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier. A win over Junior Santos will add another top level opponent under his impressive resume and allow him to earn his way back at the title.
